"I decided to share a few techniques I use while painting my models. As I mentioned, we must consider a question: do we good army with shining metal, or evil with dirty scrap. To illustrate my descriptions I decided to take photos and describe the easiest way of painting metallics step-by-step. I used arms with weapons for this purpose to focus on this detail only.

Let us start with a plastic skaven arm, as I have many of them here :)

I removed it from the sprue, cleaned and trimmed, and attached to a piece of plastic for convenient painting (only for the purpose of this tutorial)

I sprayed Chaos Black over it to achieve smooth and even coverage.

I covered the blade with a thin layer of Tin Bitz.

I slighlty drybrushed the blade with Boltgun, so that Tin Bitz showed through a little.

Central part of the blade was covered with a thinned down mix of Brown Wash + Chaos Black.

I painted a little bit of Boltgun along the edge and a bit in the middle.

I painted the shaft of this weapon and voila!
