The "Share metallics tips" Topic

Post by ToMaZ »

Heya guys again,

After a little chat with Mahon in the shoutbox on The "Share NMM tips and colors" Topic I decided to start a metallic topic too. As Mahon said:
it would be a great place to collect peoples ideas and opinions on given matters
And offcourse we can't forget about the real fans or RMM (huh skrit :P)

A lot of people think that metallics are not as hard to pull off. And that's partially true, since you can just slap on some metallic paint, wash it with some ink, and voil?, you got yourself a metallic part. But does it look good?
I on the other hand think good metallics are at least as difficult as nmm. I am sure a lot of people will share my opinion, others will not.

Here are some of the IMHO better metallic links:

http://www.jrn-works.dk/ Jakob Nielsen's site. His tutorial section has a good tut on metallics.

http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/245
http://www.coolminiornot.com/article/aid/232
http://www.kaple.dk/?page=tutorials&id=34

Not to forget:
CofC metallic tutorial :)

So the same thing goes as for the nmm topic: Share your experiences, tips, colours, techniques on metallics here :) And I hope it will be a good topic to improve our metallics.

thanx for your time and attention again :P

One of the things that I frequently get comments on is my metalics, I was thinking some time in the near future doing an article for CoC on the subject covering both Grey and Gold metalics, I need to get a couple of things done first but then I'll start on something, but you are right to get effective looking metallics takes thought and is not as easy as some people think.

OK to bring this topic a bit back to your attention again:

a Copper weathering tutorial by Trovarion :)

a sort of tutorial on the bottom of this page: Painting clinic Lab (thanx to scarabstudios ^^)

And some reference shots on CMON both good for metallics and NMM I think.

Some good stuff there especially the copper tute, only problem is that beaten copper is no longer produced by GW. I'm currently doing an article on painting a Warrior of Minas Tirith for the one ring site these minis are prdominantly silver metallic so if you would like when it is completed (should be tomorrow evening if I get my backside in gear) I can also post it here.

I've pm'd the article to Mahon hopefully it will be ok and then it will get uploaded onto the site, for my first try at this sort of thing I'm quite pleased with it.

You can read it here if it doesn't get accepted on CoC.

Cheers Tim.
