Painting at last - Andrea orc

Post by Nameless »

I don't have a habit to show my painted models. I'm not a good painter and even worse photographer

I finally forced myself to take brush and paint something, that would not look like almost all my works - rushed-drybryshed-tabletop army style. I'm actually so happy because of that, that I will share some wip pics of Andrea orc. Perhaps I will even be able to finish this model within few months :P I'll post some pictures showing any progress of works. For now, it looks like this:

Comments are welcome, but please - be gentle :D

BTW - here is in-box picture, if somebody is interested.[/url]

Looks nice, allthough I would have made the skin a bit darker. here and there the highlights could be smoother imo. The upper left leg for example. You could shade the deepest parts of the skin with a couple of layers of very very thinned dark green-brown color. To give some more color and diversity to the skin. It will break up the green a bit, and make it more interesting.

Still great to see something from you :) It looks good, trust me :)

Looks very good to me so far, the already mentioned darker skin tone would help on a model this size but still looking great so far.

Thank you guys for tips and comments. Perhaps I'm not that bad painter as I think of myself :)

Skin tone - my photo-fu is weak :/ Actual tone is somewhere between tones visible on my pictures. It is definitely bright, as I wanted something different. The final result is not what I expected it to be, but I like it.

@ToMaZ - smoothness is an art, that I am yet to master :) Skin on the body (legs and hands also) is not finished. I will try to smooth transitions, but I'm not expecting miracles. The additional problem for me is that it is my first attempt to paint bigger scale. It is theoretically 54mm scale, but this orc measures approximately 80mm. At such big surfaces every mistake is sooo visible...

@Theotril - believe me, my other works are not worth showing around :) As I have mentioned before - drybrush and nothing more :) Actually, Illusionrip saw one model painted by me. I think, that he can confirm my words.

@Illusionrip - at least I showed you a box, right? :) As of my model - at that moment the orc has only been primed.

Don't worry about it, my painting isn't that smooth either  But you can pull the highlights closer together with some glazing :) And I know bigger scale can pose a problem when you are used to really small miniatures, I noticed while trying to paint my elf :D

btw, I didn't know it was this big... makes it interesting to buy this one too.

Few more lousy pics of my orc. I promise, I'll take to my friend, who knows how to make good photos, when I finish this model.
This is what I call slow, but steady process. Ok, very slow :)

Gentle, you say?

Honestly speaking I think it's a really good paintjob. In this scale smoothness must be the most important factor, and judging by the photos - even on large surfaces, like the skin - you managed to keep your paintjob smooth and transitions well blended.

The only criticism I have isn't about the quality but about the skintone - so: it's all about taste. I prefer more muted and natural looking colors. Yours is alien, very vivid and bright. Not my kind...

But OTOH the metallics seem to be what I like: natural and weathered. Not "clean Boltgun Metal" but realistic old armour.

Cool one, waiting for more :D
