Templar of day (another step on my quest)

Post by mahon »

I started this miniature in 2004, or was it 2003? I had two such templars and wanted to paint one as a templar of day and another as a templar of night. The one which is finished is the 'day' templar. Took me over 5 years to finish. Not because it's so difficult but because I got demotivated and preferred painting other models.

Now, that I try to follow my quest, I decided to finish all the unpainted miniatures I had. Or at least most of them.

I don't know if I ever paint the other templar, but at least this one is done now... Not as good as I initially imagined all the years ago, but better than I needed for my quest. I think the quality is decent enough to make it acceptable for my concept.

I repainted the failed SE-NMM attempt from long-time-ago, fixed some problems and surely created new ones ;)
I can see that the decoration on the end of the sword's handle lost some of its paint. But as the model is finished now, I am not going to return to it...

Ah, the freehand on the sword is a motivating gift from my beloved wife :girly: When I was so mad that I was unable to fix the sword, she repainted the front of it so that I returned to painting with renewed enthusiasm!

wow, I do like it. I'm sure you know pretty well about all the small things that could be better. I'm not going to point them out, as your goal was not to paint a contest winner.
Just one thing - the unshaved face is totally out of place here.

Cool to see another from you, don't loose your momentum now! You should post it on reaper forum, they're gonna love it :)

Wow, another mahon piece and it's not even for me!

I like the colours you chose and the dirtying up you did. Ana did something real cool with the sword too, that immediatly gained my attention! :)

ah yeah, cool :)
will post on reaper forum too...

thanks guys, you're right - not a contest winner. I can see some dirty spots, some rough transitions, but generally I am pleased with this one :)

as for the unshaven face - you know, you are right! I didn't think about it before... Didn't quite like the sculpt and didn't know how to deal with it, so this seemed to be my solution. Not the best for the subject, as you said...

Great, Mahon! I saw it in Warsaw at SoD and I was wondering, who made the freehand on the sword ;) Right... ;)

Very nice miniature! Good to see something painted by You. I especially like the face.

I am proud of you!
I like the face, and the plates on the chest.
On the few elements last touches are missing. Like the silver element of the handle that lacks the last highlight of white colour.
But finishing this mini was really a good decision. Did it wait for the end for 5 years?

and you should be

the armor is one of the things I decided to improve, which turned out to be a failure, so I had to fix it again...
but I am pretty pleased with the result and... uhm... timing

Looks good. The unshaven face doesn't bother me at all, I wouldn't have even thought about it if Nameless didn't say something. :)

A nice mini to your collection!
The mini reminds me an elf (armour, robes), apart from the sword ;-) But the unshaved face gives a contrast to these felling, looks like a bad-ass guy.
I like the armour and the shield best. The front part of the rags don`t look that nice as the back side. It misses some highlights to me.
what`s next?
miniatures painted:
2011 - 83, 2012 - 38, 2013 - 45, 2014 - 56, 2015 - 95, 2016 - 106, 2017 - 22
