I don't like the idea of disqualification just because of some freehand paintings. Well, I know religion is one of these subjects which always cause controversies and discussions, so I can understand that GW wanted to avoid this problem.
Moreover, Golden Demon is their competition so they have rights to do what they want, and you may like their decisions or not. Attend or boycott...
Anyway - it;s one excellent piece of work, even more stunning when you tihnk its 2 years old...

For me this piece is beautifully executed, but the thing strays from the fluff.
Painting 9.9/10
Converison 8/10
Originality 9/10
Story of the piece - 7/10
it hits all the marks for me apart from what its about. The banners with the jesus-like depictions are not for 40k. While i like the style the banners are painted in i'd have preferred to have seen some thing based on the fluff, like horus and the emporer fighting, but painted in that cool style.
So I love the painting, but conversion isn't anything mind blowing and the content misses the mark for my personal opinion.

What about this giger inspired nightwing?mahon wrote:Exactly, even if martyrs belong to 40K these characters depicted were simply not from the world of WH40K...

The imagery is non 40k, but it works. I think it works because its content is more general and not as specific as the other one.

NAVARRO wrote:sorry but giger imagery is 40kish. heck even little things like 40k rulebook cover are seriously cheap reproductions of giger work... i totally disagree with you there.
So 40k has been inspired by many things including giger. And gigers work has a place in 40k. I don't disagree with that. Look at the old metal hormagaunts...
im quite familiar with them ^^ and all that perfect organism from space concept has a strange similarity with with nids, or is it aliens... to make things clear giger is tyranids dark father in my opinion... and many ilustrations of concepts of 40k are based on giger... nids/aliens deamonetes/species chic, mix of cybernetic swirly madness with skulls flesh and bone/ chaos and space marines... extended skulls/ eldars... and goes on and on... even papa nurgle...Gareth wrote: So 40k has been inspired by many things including giger. but lets not go offtopic
its a short bridge of 40k religious imagery and real life religious images... since 40k is so based on a mirror of reality that is religion...

I love the work, and I don't care for the religious imagery, but that's because I'm not a religious person. I can well understand that some people find this offensive.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's stated in the GD rules that images that this type of works aren't allowed? Things with religion, racism etc, hot stuff for ethnic discussions. If I'm right, then he should have read the rules better before he entered this.
Now I think the painting is superb, the images are well executed, and the paintingstyle matches the mini. The imagery itself could have been chosen better IMO. It's hard to imagine a devilish creature with an image of two holy figures on his banner... it's like worshipping his archenemy
anyhoo... great work. Hats off for him

Did anyone notice something interesting with the image of the mother and child (possibly Mary and Jesus)... the child has horns...ToMaZ wrote:
