To be totally honest it doesnt surprise me a bit, its a normal thing and theres always people trying to explore ilegal ways to make a profit, its not diferent in our little miniature world, its just a mirror of the daily reality.
How many times have we seen this on GD's?
Personally the only thing that bothers me is what Dargrin said...
Mate you should NOT restrain yourself from something you whant to do just because theres one sad cheater amoung the majority of nice honest painters in a comunity

Just have fun

Everything said here is true. Sue has the right of it though. We have to police ourselves. We may not catch everyone but in the long run, we are going to impact it enough that maybe the next one even under a different id may think twice or the first one that was thinking of trying may not.
Just my take.

If we don't who will? We're a community, and a community bands together to protect itself, and educate everyone about the disadvabntages of cheating--you jeqopardize your standing in the community, and pick on the wrong person, like one with a lawyer for a cousin, and you could end up prosecuted for copyright infringement.

Sadly the internet lends itself to this kind of cheating and our community is partly to blame by creating a climate where using false identities and multiple identities is an accepted practice and quite commonplace and often used to cover all kinds of bad behaviour. It is a great shame and we should do whatever we can to discourage it. It would help a little IMHO if everyone made a habit of posting under their genuine identity.

i think ian you have been hanging with the wrong crowd, i can't point out any part of the comunity i am in that endorses the "use of false and multiple identities" care to explain, please?

Ummm... I suppose there are people out there that post under multiple identities, but most painters I know want to have one identity for everything because that's how they get recognition and business. Just my $.02.

Hi Trovarion. Go to any of the very popular sites and you will see many names where you do not know the true identity of the poster. Go to any of the threads where someone is under some form of attack and you will see several participants whose names you have not seen before and do not see again.
Hi Ladyeyes. It is possible is it not that some companies and some sculptors and some figure painters use a unique brand to sell their wares while using other identities to help promote their own brand or even attack those of competitors. And that some fora use false and multiple identities to increase their traffic ratings and to create controversy and attract more viewers.
Our community is far from being perfect and of course it merely reflects society at large. I can think of no good reason to use a false name and yet there are so many in use in our community. I mean our community at large of course and not CofC specifically. I do not really understand why anyone would want to defend the practice of using false names. Just my 2 cents of course.
