Wyrd Painting Contest: Femme Fatale III - 2008

Post by LadyEyes »

On behalf of FrustratedFather:

With the new year here its time to start up another Wyrd Painting Contest. As with all the Wyrd contests this one is themed as well and we bring back our most popular theme of all. Without further preamble, I'm happy to announce the 'Wyrd Painting Contest - Femme Fatale III!'

For the seductive, irresistible and ultimately dangerous ladies. The only requirement here is that the ladies look good and are dangerous. Any weapon toting, spell wielding woman that can take your breath away, literally, will do just fine!

The categories for the contest are:

ALTERNATIVE: The lovely ladies that just don't seem to fit in to any other categories. This can be gun toting cowgirls, chainsaw wielding cheerleaders or any number of other miniatures that we haven't thought of.

DEADLY DUEL: A diorama with two or more combatants locked in combat or something equally disturbing. At least one miniature must be female.

FANTASY: Sword wielding barbarians, harem guards or lovely lasses ready to put a charm on you. If the miniature is pure fantasy, this is her category.

SCI-FI: Gun toting ladies of the deadly future or weapon wielding aliens dancing a song of death or perhaps a steampunk lady of the night. A wide range of miniatures will fit nicely into this category.

SIMPLY SCANDALOUS: Ladies that have for one reason or another forgone clothing and have decided to share their charms with us. Also, with the number of talented painters in the community, ladies who's clothing has been painted sheer so as to see through it will be placed within here. I expect this will be a large category!

The specific rules for the contest can be found on the Wyrd Miniatures website on the forums under 'Wyrd Painting Contest: Rules and Information' as well as questions and answers that have arisen in the past which may be of some help to you.

The contest will run from January 5th to February 25th and during that time competition entries can be submitted. At the close of the contest, voting will commence for one week where you will be allowed to vote anonymously through the Wyrd forum software as well as leave comments and critique which we have found our previous entrants have greatly enjoyed. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent to the winners, along with the random prizes that we give away with every contest.

In order to participate in the contest you must create an account on the Wyrd Miniatures website in order to submit an entry and to vote in the polls which will decide the winners of the contest. You are encouraged to enjoy the forums and participate, but it is NOT required in any fashion in order to enjoy the Wyrd Painting Contest.

Wyrd staff CAN enter the contest and have a chance to win.

When participating in the competition, you must submit a miniature that is in line with the current THEME that is being hosted. The miniature can be from any miniature manufacturer. Conversions are both allowed and encouraged.

All submissions must be yours alone, no passing off of someone else's work as your own. You CAN submit a miniature that someone else has converted or sculpted for you though - just not painted, based .. etc.

You are allowed to submit MULTIPLE entries to the contest. As many as you can paint, you can submit.

The miniature cannot have been displayed in any form elsewhere on the internet or published mediums such as magazines. ALL entries must be new unseen paint jobs! All contest entries will be displayed anonymously to prevent unfair advantages based on name (this isn't a popularity contest) and thus there can be no signatures or watermarks upon any entries. No announcing on forums, web page, blogs or any other type of medium about the type of miniature that you will be painting, nor concept sketches.

When photographing and editing your pictures, please submit them in .JPG (JPEG) format, with a file size of no larger than 250k. Photographs can be no larger than 800 pixels wide. I'm not much worried about length as it will allow you to fit in angles of the photograph. If you send me a photograph that doesn't fall within the limits prescribed above, it will be deleted. Due to the sheer number of people that have entered unedited photographs in the past we will no longer do any editing for you. There are many free photo resizing programs out there. You can find one here at https://www.irfanview.com/ Wyrd staff will attempt to notify anyone who's pictures were deleted due to size or for any reason, but can not guarantee notification.

Miniatures can be submitted at any time during the contest until voting starts. None will be showcased till the day after the final submissions date. Submissions will be accepted up till Midnight, EASTERN U.S. time, on the closing date of the currently running contest. Submissions after the cut off date will NOT be accepted, no exceptions.

In order to submit an entry for the contest, go to the current contest gallery and upload your entry. As the gallery is set for moderation, your submission will NOT show up immediately but will instead wait for me to review and edit accordingly. When submitting your contest entry, please take the time to describe the miniature and as well as any other contest notes you wish me to review before editing. DO NOT add any web page links, mention of your name/handle, links to larger pictures or any other form of personal identification to your description.

At the closing date of the contest, the submissions will be published to the proper contest gallery, anonymously, and the voting will begin.

In order to vote, you must be a registered member of the website.

A poll with your choice of winners will be presented to you where you select your favorites. While viewing the contest submissions in the gallery, you will be allowed to leave comments and critique on the entry. Please try to be constructive with these comments.

Public Voting will be open for seven days immediately after polls are posted for the contest. After the voting, announcements will be made and prizes sent out.

As always, we have a load of goodies and prizes to give away and this contest is no different. 1st through 3rd place winners in each category will win prizes and this year we're also including Wyrd T-shirts for Best of Show, Best Base or Diorama and Best of Wyrd winners which will be personalized announcing your domination of the contest!

Naturally we'll be continuing out 'Random Schmuck!' and 'Complete Schmuck!' random awards as well, where random entrants and voting/commenting participants receive miniatures and/or gift certificates as encouragement for participating and as our way of saying thanks for taking the time.

Should there be any questions, or if anything is unclear, PLEASE take the time to ask in the forums as that is the quickest way to receive clarification on a subject as well as bring it to the attention of others.

Best of luck and heres to another fun and successful painting contest!

Regards,
Nathan Caroland

@demi - So take up the challenge and paint something completely different. :P

Don't forget the CLUB CHALLENGE! IMMPS challenges any and all clubs (must have 3 or more people enter this category) to paint Freebooter's Pirate Queen! This is a separate category to show the world that IMMPS, the Illinois/Midwest Mini Painters Society is the best paint club in the world. It's a throw down of brushes---and we will prevail!

Um, it also means I am not painting on behalf of Chest of Colors...I'm the IMMPS Chief afterall! We have the Golden Goblins (we hope) and the Brushthralls confirmed in this challenge...any other poor painter souls wanna try and knock the paint chip off our shoulder? Hmmmm? :-)

I'm rather poor painter, I don't have free time and have other commitments at the moment, I suck at painting females... yeah, I might want to try and enter something :)

@Sue - I don't understand the club challenge idea. Can you clarify it for me?
