Chest of Colors forum

Hey guys,

After a little chat with some peeps, I wanted to know if some of the CofC would be interested to have something like the IP contest running within our forum.
"Contest" would be with lighter rules than the real IP, and it would only be done for fun.
Peeps would have to paint something on a defined theme, they would have a deadline to respect and minis would be judge by forum members. This is basically the great lines of it.

Information about what is Iron Painter (shamlessly taken from Wyrd Forum):

You take a list of people who would like to participate....randomly pair them up, and have a tournament style "paint-off". The twist would be there would be themes the painters would have to adhere to. (for instance...one theme may be...Purple. The miniatures have to consist of a purple paint scheme....)

We would have to have several rounds, to be able to come up with a "champion".

Interested, yes! Able to participate, not sure! ^^

Why I didn't do anything more? Well... I came up with idea of Mini of the Month and forgot about it

Generally I think it would be a great idea to make a painting contest. But to attract people to participate in an on-line contest you need:
- fresh/new contest ideas - Iron Painter there is one already. Just like with Painting Duels, there is something called Painting Wars at other forum. I think it would be great to have something original in form. It isn't a must, but would help.
- lots of prizes

If we find something that could be new to the community, it would really help it.
At home I will try to write more, because I did begin with making some notes on that topic

I am with you, but I think we need something new (either in terms of judging, scoring, topic selection).

Just wanted to ask the people who voted to state why yes or no. If you say no that's quite alright but why not?

I'd absolutely be interested (I voted yes), but for two things. The first is time, and the second is that my level of painting is nowhere near the level of some of the people on this forum, so I'm not entirely sure how much point there would be in my participating.

I voted yes although I would prefer a "normal" CofC contest where for example top three would be featured in a little article and/or on the main page as prize.

But that's probably just me 'cause I don't really want to rush painting a mini in a week or two and then go on to the next round and so on. Ofc it might be interesting and is definately a different challenge but with these kind of speedpainting contests you are often forced to rush certain parts of a mini and can't really push yourself to achieve the best quality possible for you.

As for no point in participating at normal contests - in german there is a saying "Dabei sein ist alles" which should be in english "The most important thing is not to win but to take part!". So basically see it as an opportunity to really push yourself to your limits and things learned during this process are much more valuable than any price you get.

@Skrit - I voted "no". Not because I don't care but because I treated "interested" as "would participate" and I know I would not. not enough time, sorry. MEs are taking all the involvement I can afford at the moment. But I will offer as much support as I can to the event if you guys make it happen!

@p1per - good idea. feel free to talk about it with either sea.man or hellspawn, they're surely going to be helpful. and for now as close as we're getting to this idea is the Miniature of the Month where we'll be voting for our top 3 choices. more info soon

Well, it's just an idea I had, and nothing set in stones so far, any suggestions ideas that would help having something running would be really cool and I'm all up for discussions etc .

And even if this is not happnening for x or y reason, it's ok, ideas aren't always meant to be born

I didn't vote I am for yes and no...
NO - I don't have that much time to paint and 2 weeks is almost impossible for me to finish something. That is why I never took part in IP contest We can set the rules, so it can also be 3 weeks
YES - I try to take part in all events here at our forum and I would like to participate in our own painting competition. It is fun

Maybe we could make some sort of painting league? In IP contest if you are knocked out, you're out. In some sort of league people could paint all the time.
