Using Ana's tutorial, I've made my very first attempt at chrome on this Shadowseer model (one of two I've got). I'm eventually going for a simple scheme of chrome armour, colourful gemstones and quartered black and red clothing.

have you read any tutorials on SE-NMM? you got the lighting wrong, but I am sure my take on this is also not quite perfect...
I don't know what SE-NMM is (am looking for it at the moment), so it would be safe to say I haven't read any tutorials about it.
I can see what you mean about the lighting. I think the correct lighting is somewhere between what I've done and what you've offered, particularly on the legs.
A good attempt, im trying to get to grips with these techniques too.
One comment but more for Mahon's example. On the legs you have the horizon running vertially up the leg but sure since its a vertical object the horizon should run horizontally along the legs?
Actually looking at real life metal armour (I'm a re-enactor if you didn't guess) that's been polisged to a mirror shine you'll see the horizon going from the top left to the top right in a very deep arc in the middle, kind of like this..
You'll notice how the bushes on either side of the armour are drawn up into an arc by the curve of the metal, I think Mahon has the face re-do right but the legs are nearer what your original was than his version (sorry Mahon but real life does have it's advantages).
I'll try to find you a better picture soon.
Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again
