Widowmaker WIP

Post by ToMaZ »

Hi!

Since painting won't really work for me today, I decided to make some pics of my WIP widowmaker. Just to show you guys how my painting skills are after almost 2 years in the hobby ;) :)
I expected the pics to be better with good daylight, but they ended up a bit too dark. I'll try to make some decent new ones later.

The only thing that's kind of finished is the cloak, face and the metallics on the gun.
I tried to go for dirty oiled metallics on the gun. The transistion is quite smooth in real life, but here it just looks rough :?
The pants needs another colour, but I can't really figure out which, maybe just black? Any ideas?
And I think I'm going to do a little freehand on the back of the cloak.

If you feel you want to comment, please do so. And don't be too soft. I still want to learn a lot. :D

Indeed the pics look a bit dark but I can see the overall quality just fine. The colourscheme is good but I don't like the colour of the elbow pad in contrast with the rest. (but that's my humble opinion.) It looks a bit pinkish...I like your metallics and I've heard that rmm is always hard to photograph so don't worry about it too much. All in all I think this mini is coming along great! :D

Thanks Skrit :)

I wanted the elbow pad to be a strong red, together with shoulder pads. (to link them with Khador juggernauts which are going to be mostly red) but now I'm thinking about another colour for the pads. A grey blue (like shadow grey) instead of red.

hold you horses - red is a good color but not this red -- a much darker - somthing betwen a brown + dark red - like old lethar - you can iven make som mix that look like leather - dark brow (of your choise) + red (this darker) + taned flesh (or ent other color thathas a leder look + red)
- much more red - less pinkish - dont add eny blue color.

end The pants - hym i thinkit is not adicional color but less gray blue ....
- a litel mix of ultramarine to higtlights or just for some glases ??? (but it is only my opinion .... )

end the gun ... i think i like it :D

Looks good Thomas. Keep up the good work :).
On some parts of the gun I can see the brush strokes, probably this is what you meant by looking rough. It is indeed hard to make photos of rmm, I myself had serious problems with it. Things which looked in my eyes really good IRL, looked on the photo just flat.

The reds on the pads coul look deeper and richer, this way it doesn't really fit. This applies also to the cloak. The transition is nice and smooth though.

I like tha face, will look great when ready :).

Yeah, but I checked the mini a couple of times now, and IRL it's hardly noticeable. The metallics took me the longest to finish, and yet I think I even have to put more time in it to get it even smoother.

So I shoud shade the reds more, with a dark brownish red (like Maru said) to make them richer, and step away from the bright red?

I'm going to make the cloak a bit lighter towards the bottom and on the highest folds. Because judging from the picture it looks to much like I used one colour and only shaded it. While I did painted subtle highlights. (I think they were too subtle)

I hope to get some better pictures soon. I'm still experimenting with the settings of the camera :?

beautiful skin!and gun too!
i agree with Maru, the red is too bright to me: since the cape is brown, there is a "suggestion" of warm and soft colors.

if you want to keep the bright red, then you have to add other bright particulars on the mini,f.e. gloves.
just my idea:D
