Thought this was quite an interesting website. It's about 3-D/2-D sculpting and also a bit about the techniques GW is dabbling with at the moment for making miniatures not by hand but by computers.

I have a friend that told me yesterday about a machine they have where he works that takes a 3D drawing and makes a perfect resin cast. It does large or small scale stuff. Its for medical purposes mostly, such as making a life-sized model of a skull from scans. He keeps trying to convince them to let him try making something like a small figure, but they won't. 
He says he's going to try to find out how much such would cost. That and some good artists would almost make an instant miniatures company.
