Hasslefree Hustle - new initiative in UK;]

Post by Marta »

Hi;]

Guys from Platoonbritannica started new initiative called "Best of British".
The aim is to support small, independant, based in UK (at least for now;p) miniature companies like Hasslefree, Heresy and other in their struggle with miniature giants. As the first company to support they've choose Hasslefree;]

About Best of British:
Fet wrote: As many of you know, Britain is home to some fantastic ‘indie’ miniature companies. They’ve been pumping out ranges of interesting and characterful models for us to paint, all without the backing of a large fan-base or serious investment. Hasslefree and Heresy have been going for years, while smaller outfits like JoeK and Statuesque are still building up a catalogue.

Here at Platoon Britannica, we’re enormously proud of the talent and ambition shown by British indie manufacturers, and we like to support these guys as much as possible. Our support takes many forms, through things like buying their products and never getting around to painting them, telling all our mates about how awesome their models are, or simply stopping by their stands at Salute to say hi and exchange tea-brewing notes.

As you also know, Platoon Britannica is all about building a community of like-minded painters. We offer advice and feedback, push each other to improve, and have meet-ups across the country, and lots of us have made great friends within the larger painting community as a result.

In recent times, the economic downturn has hit our beloved indie manufacturers as much as it’s hit other industries, and for many of these people, selling models provides the only income for their families. So, it should come as no surprise that Platoon Britannica wants to reach out and help!

The funny thing is, a model from one of these companies will only cost you £5-10 and provide you with hours of painting, so there’s no reason it has to be this way! This is the founding idea behind the BEST OF BRITISH: get everyone to focus on one or two indie companies for a couple of months, bringing the company itself a few sales and (hopefully) a lot of good press from the results.

If in doubt, remember that without these guys we wouldn’t have Iacton’s Eva la Revolucion, Talonicus’s Salute-winning Libby on Tigress, Avicenna’s also-Salute-winning Wolf the Barbarian, or loads of other inspirational pieces.

This is why we’re establishing the BEST OF BRITISH, which will run regular painting competitions, paintalongs, and other events, all to highlight the quality we have right here with our indie manufacturers.
And about the competition:

13th November - 15th January

As you may have divined from the title, we've elected to support Hasslefree for our first competition. So, without further ado, the rules:

Categories

Members
Staff

Any member of Platoon Britannica can enter the competition as long as their entry meets the criteria below. We've split out the staff from the competition so that it's impossible for us to win anything other than bragging rights (which, as we all know, are worth billions of pounds), while being able to take part and hopefully keep everyone motivated.

Entries
You can enter up to two pieces, each of which must follow these guidelines:

Max base size 50 x 50mm.
You can use as many models in your entry as you like, as long as they are mostly Hasslefree.
You're free to use models from other companies, as long as they are from a UK-based company, and the Hasslefree pieces remain in the majority.

Submitting
You're more than welcome to post up WIP and finished shots (and we'd encourage it!).
Final pics should be sent to: pbcomps@LIVE.CO.UK

Pics can be any dimensions, but please keep them below 300k.
You can only submit one picture per entry, but composite images are allowed.
Entries close Sunday 15th January, at 7pm.

Judging
We'll put up a gallery of all entries so that they can all be seen in one space.

Judging will be done by a poll, open to all members of Platoon Britannica, running for one week from the time it opens. With that much time, everyone will have a chance to snipe the mod or admin they like the most. And vote on the real competition, of course.

Prizes
Finally, all the loot for the two winning entries will be donated by the staff from our comically large piles of unpainted models. As a teaser, we can already confirm that the following have been donated:

Hasslefree Suzi with pistol
Hasslefree Ceril, Brooding Elven Lord
Hasslefree Officer Nick
Hasslefree Demon Children
BNSminiature plinths
250 x 75mm sculptiboard
Darkmessiah Bases - Fantasy town set
Hasslefree original metal Axenarf (armoured ogre)
Hasslefree Tiriel (kneeling female Paladin)
Hasslefree Liberty (Viking girlie)
Hasslefree Harem girl
Hasslefree Sebastian (old knight)
Hasslefree Alice (pistol and stuffed rabbit)
Hasslefree Kat (not-Beckinsale)
Hasslefree Shimmer

Yes, ALL of that is up for grabs! And remember: this is only the beginning!
cheers
